Entrepreneurship: An Addiction

Does every IITian have this inside him?? Is this a fashion to be an Entrepreneur after your B.Tech from IIT or it is really the passion to be at the top? When thought deep inside, the question gets echoed to me and rather surprisingly I was in the middle of an unsolved case.

The company I am working in is started by two IITians, one of my closest friend at IITD has already left his job to accommodate his business association, one other did not even appear for on-campus placements and started his own firm, two more guys from the same batch has already put their boots in the destined direction and one has launched his home production along with job. These are just few contacts in my vicinity but I am sure many others also must have planned their way even before they pass out.

The question for the time being is not how many of them are ready to fly but actually how many of them actually take off. Few reached heights of greatness but that is a strict “few”, rest are still finding their way and some of them got crashed even before they cross the runway.

So what is the outcome of this mess? When I asked this question to few respectable figures in business domain, I got a very fair answer and that to me was more than satisfactory. They simply told me “you got to take your chance if you want to achieve levels beyond the reach of common man. The only thing important is when to take that chance. Whoever replies himself this question honestly, he is all set to become a potential difference maker.”

But during my stay at IITD, I was fortunate enough to watch some of the great ideas and there implementation in making. With due respect to every other engineering college, I found a strange quality in an iitan and that is a strong desire to be at the top, no matter how it comes. Each one of them wants to achieve that something extra which makes them stand out of the rest. Many of those great ideas eventually turns into entrepreneurship and many into disaster but the point remained to be underlined is the addiction attached. Yes it is an addiction which is named entrepreneurship professionally and almost every iitan, deep inside has its root in him.

I am finishing on a controversial note but my effort was for a group not community

  2. True Amit. It might be an addiction but at times the question u need to ask is - "Are you ready to take all the risks involved. Do u want to really shatter ur personal life". Being an entrepreneur, ur work becomes ur personal life :)

To be true.. I am not very fond of IITians as a person. They have a "keeda" which is ewwww..

For instance,2 years back, I was roaming in NYC river side pe at 1 am in mast mausum with a group of friends on Friday night. The IITian among us was lost in his world. I asked "kya hua, kahan khoye hue ho". n He was like - "Yaar, shaam ko code mein bug tha, usi ke baare mein soch ra hun"
I was like.. "Urggggghhh, I was right abt IITians"
